Portfolio Review Workshop

Architecture, art, photography, and graphic design have more in common than creativity. We share a passion for transferring our knowledge to make an impact in society. Our portfolio review workshop offers one-to-one in person sessions intended for students who are interested in architecture and those within various creative professions developing personal projects. This can be suitable for architects and non architects that want quick professional feedback on organizing their pieces, their content, presentation formats, ideas to improve, or simply asking questions about their work. Perhaps there are personal projects you are working on—book designs, art installations, photography works, etc. This can be your chance to present it to the reviewers within the various industries.

We recommend a sample of 10 pieces to bring to the workshop for review.

Catherine Yass (Art, Photogrpahy, Film)
Catherine Yass Studio, UK.
Yass's photographs and films disrupt notions of power through the disorientation of the camera and seduction of colour. With her photographs, she combines a standard colour image with a cross-processed blue negative, to produce a psychological space that is surreal. She often displays these on light boxes to remind the photographer’s contingency upon light. With her films they are frequently turned upside down or captured from unusual perspectives—high up, underground, or underwater—and often filmed from a camera mounted on the moving objects they depict. The resulting disorientation turns institutional frameworks on their head, questioning their stability through the disruption of the image.
In 2002, Yass was shortlisted for The Turner Prize. She also represented the UK at the 10th Indian Triennial, 2001, and won the Glenn Dimplex Photography prize in 1999. Her work features in a number of collections worldwide including Tate, London; Arts Council of England, The British Council and the Government Art Collection, London; The National Museums and Galleries of Wales; MoMA, New York; The Jewish Museum, New York; Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh; the National Museum of Women in the Arts Collection, Washington DC; The Linda Pace Foundation, USA and the Phillips Collection, UK.
She lives and works in London and trained at the Slade School of Art, London; the Hochschüle der Künst, Berlin; and Goldsmiths College, London. Visit her new public commission at Paddington Square opening in summer 2023.
